Do You Want A Job...Or
Do You Want To Make A Difference?

We'll cut to the chase: Boyd Group International is looking to add more of what has made us a success over the last 25 years. Not just people, but energy, enthusiasm and a passion to bring new ideas and perspectives to aviation.

The aviation industry is changing fundamentally, and as a leader in consulting, we're staying ahead of it. That's how we've built this business - being at the cutting edge.

A-Players Only. If you have real values and integrity - and you have a fire to make a difference  - we have a starting point for discussions. There's a term for the type of individuals who can fit at Boyd Group International: we're looking for buccaneers.

Historically, buccaneers were commissioned by the Crown to accomplish the same objectives as the British Navy. The big difference was that buccaneers were goal-focused. They saw the Spanish galleon, and went after it. The Navy was process-focused. The Navy followed tradition, a complex chain of command, and adherence to past procedure. They went by the book.

For major long-term engagements, it worked. But when it came to identifying and capturing opportunities that popped up suddenly (as is the case in aviation), by the time all the Navy protocols were met, the target was halfway back home.

Buccaneers, on the other hand, were experts at their craft. They threw the book overboard.

Most consulting firms today are the 21st century equivalent of the Navy: To push the metaphor: they don't rock the boat.

We do. And that's the reason we get results for our clients. In today's rapidly changing aviation industry, the "rules" change almost daily. To prosper, aviation companies must have a buccaneer mentality - expert at what they do, and able to quickly shift strategies and tactics  That's the way we work.

This is how Boyd Group International has approached aviation research and consulting since 1984. It is very different from the approach at other consulting firms, We are more aggressive, more blunt, and - looking at our achievements over the past 28 years, plus the respect we've gained in the industry - we're more effective for our clients.

If you're looking for more - more impact on aviation, more challenge, more fun - check us out.

Aviation is Moving Fast. We're Moving Faster. Over the past year, we've brought in new staff, new expertise, and new approaches to aviation research, forecasting and market intelligence. We've technologically upgraded our offices, including a state-of-the-art communications conference room which allows us immediate interaction and data-sharing with our clients, regardless of where they are located.

The result is that the firm has grown materially in all areas of our practice. In particular, our international client portfolio has expanded several fold. We understand that aviation no longer recognizes national borders. It's an inter-connected industry that demands global expertise.

Not Comfortable With The Status-Quo? If you have a fiery urge to stand up and make a difference, to say no to mediocrity, to add to aviation's future, then we may have the start of a framework for discussion. We want to hear what you want to bring to the table. We want to know your enthusiastic ideas and concepts to move the future. We'd like to know if you really can fit in at Boyd Group International and how you can work with the team in growing our company.

Skillsets Sought. So, if you have an established and extensive aviation background in one or more of these disciplines - in finance, planning, scheduling, IT, market analysis - let us know what you think you can bring to Boyd Group International.

At the moment, we are considering positions to enhance the following skillsets:

  • Aviation Financial Analysis & Forecasting - Ability to identify trends and emerging dynamics in the global airline industry is essential. In-depth knowledge of airline P&L and Form-41 are mandatory. Ability to move quickly and accurately is a critical part of the position envisioned.

  • Aviation Data Development & Management - Experience with SQL and other data software is essential, as is a deep understanding of the airline industry structure and its trends. These skillsets must be in place already.

Self-Qualify Yourself

Before you do anything, however, it's important to understand that not everybody can fit in at Boyd Group International. Which is okay. We really are different, and that means a different philosophy and approach to aviation consulting & research. Here are a few of the fundamental philosophies at Boyd Group International that any prospective team member should understand up front.

We don't play by the "official" rules. Traditionally, consultants have been expected to speak out only when on the clock. Traditionally, consultants are expected not to take positions on matters, lest they run counter to those of potential clients. We don't play that game. We are not hired guns to the highest bidder.

We do not shy away from controversy. We really do tell it like we see it. All consultants claim that they do, too. The difference is that we've got the media clips and independent studies to prove it. They don't. So, to fit in here, you must have what it takes to be able to stand up and defend positions that sometimes run counter to what "everybody knows." That's not as easy as it sounds.

We do not simply accept what comes out of the industry. Much of our business comes to us because of our forthright positions on aviation issues. But there are entities who bristle when we disagree with the consensus, or when we state positions that are not in agreement with government policies or those of some industry "alphabet" groups. It threatens them. So, if you are generally in agreement with most of what comes out of Washington - or have no real opinion about it - please do not apply. If you support things like congestion pricing, cap-and-trade and blind no-analysis spending on projects like high-speed rail, or hold no real opinions on such things - you really should look elsewhere.

We don't run with the pack. This is not just a throw-away statement. We really feel independence is the key to consulting excellence. So, we are not members of consultant industry groups or councils or associations. This is a business, and we intend to be better than the competition, not have cocktails with them at annual meetings. Our professional ethics are absolute. We don't need to be part of some clubby industry group to prove it.

Image & Perception Are Important. This is a professional workplace, not a New Age Temple of Good Feeling. Boyd Group International is not a place for sloppy work, sloppy dress, or sloppy attitudes.

Baseline Experience Required

Discipline-specific expertise will be reviewed. In all cases, however, the following are the minimum qualifications

·         At least 2 years of air carrier experience in areas such as traffic, market, revenue management, forecasting, fleet or schedule analysis. Some background in airport operations would be a plus

·        An active and accurate understanding of aviation trends and strategies on historical, current, and futurist bases. Excellent writing and presentation skills must be demonstrated

·         In-depth grasp and understanding of airline & aviation metrics

·         Ability to become proficient in FAA regulations

·        Ability to accomplish complex analytical projects quickly and accurately, with established expertise in airline and aviation metrics

The candidate must possess the ability to deal effectively with executives and decision-makers at the highest levels. Must have a burning desire to go beyond the expected.

Resumes will be reviewed for these qualifications.

Working At Boyd Group International

We have a traditional working environment, with a typical workday, guided by the projects and research in progress. There is travel involved based on the project load and the specific position.

One Location. One Team. One of the reasons that Boyd Group International is the leader in trend-analysis and concept-leadership is that we focus on working together, exchanging ideas and perspectives and accomplishing independent research.

Many consulting firms are nothing more than loose combinations of staff that live across the country and work only when a project comes in. That's not a team, it's a loose association - at best.

Some consulting firms even attempt to pass off associates' homes as "company branch offices," implying that each is open for business across the country, when they are nothing more than a cell-phone number. That's not a team, either. Actually, it's questionable ethics.

Working together as a team geometrically increases vision, perspective, and expertise. That's why our efforts all focus at our headquarters office building in Evergreen, Colorado, in the Rocky Mountain foothills (elevation 7,990ft / 2,435 meters). We're just 25 - 30 minutes from downtown Denver, 30 minutes from the Continental Divide, and one hour east of Vail. If you've ever traveled on I-70 from Denver to Colorado ski country, you've driven right by our offices.

Benefits include health insurance, and a company-matched retirement plan. We even offer Aflac, with or without that annoying advertising duck.

Final Points. The position, title, salary, etc. will be discussed based on experience. If you fully meet these skillsets, please send your resume to sonia @ AviationPlanning.com, with the word "Skillset" in the subject line. Please, respect our time - no hail mary passes, thinking that maybe we'll consider something else. If you don't have these skills, don't waste our time and yours. EOE
