We're Expanding...

We are looking for a special type of individuals at Boyd Group International.

The starting point: We're looking for people with a specific type of worldview.

We're not looking  for "consultants." They tend to be boring. We're definitely not looking for time servers. They're the intellectual equivalent of parasite drag. We're not looking at past titles. We've been through all types of "titled" corporate nobility - former airline presidents, vice presidents, professors, you name it. We've learned to look beyond titles.

We're looking for individuals who know they are better, who see the world as it can be, not as it is, and know they can deliver it, and who can produce the results to back it up.

There's a term for the type of individuals who can fit at Boyd Group International: we're looking for buccaneers. Historically, buccaneers were comissioned by the Crown to accomplish the same objectives as the British Navy. The big difference was that buccaneers were goal-focused. They saw the Spanish galleon, and went after it. The Navy was process-focused. The Navy followed tradition, a complex chain of command, and adherence to past procedure. They went by the book. For major long-term engagements, it worked. But when it came to identifying and captuiring opportunities that arose suddently (as in aviation), by the time all the protocols were met, the target was halfway back home.

Buccaneers, on the other hand, were experts at their craft. They adapted quickly to each situation without regard for tradition or protocols. They threw the book overboard.

Most consulting firms today are the 21st century equivalent of the Navy: don't question ambient thinking, stick with past procedure, and always, always go by the book. It's safe. Nobody can criticize or point fingers when they fail. To push the metaphor: they don't rock the boat..

We do. And that's the reason we get results for our clients. In today's rapidly changing aviation industry, the "rules" change almost daily. To prosper, all companies must have a buccaneer mentality - expert at what they do, and able to quickly shift strategies and tactics

Do You Fit This Description?  A buccaneer at this company is one whose sworn enemies are political correctness and groupthink. A buccaneer is an individual who knows that bold vision is what creates the future. One who fully understands that safely running with the pack advances neither the industry nor the individual.

At Boyd Group International, a buccaneer is a person who's ready and eager to take on new challenges, with no fear of what others may think. A buccaneer understands that breakthroughs and success are achieved by working innovatively with others of like mind, and fully understands that right and wrong is not a function of popular opinion. In consulting, a buccaneer is an individual who relishes slashing through accepted norms when they are at variance with truth or accuracy.

When it's a matter of honesty and integrity, a buccaneer does not hesitate to take the initiative, without needing group validation. Can work effectively with other team members to achieve goals and objectives. Focused on clear objectives. Sees value in approaching things outside of "how it's always been done." Can effectively attack projects from the flanks, using powerful facts, logic, and intuition. Doesn't do "studies" - instead does solutions

Understands that titles and position alone are no substitute for intellectual accuracy and ethics. When necessary, not afraid to make decisive moves, and take on the "establishment." Above all, buccaneers have absolute ethical standards. They operate to capture objectives, to go for the gold, to focus on valid goals - not babysit a client's crackpot scheme.

This is how Boyd Group International has approached aviation research and consulting since 1984. It is very different from the approach at other consulting firms, We are more aggressive, more blunt, and - looking at our achievements over the past 25 years, plus the respect we've gained in the industry - we're more effective for our clients.

We're Aviation Industry Experts First. Only Then Can We Be Effective Consultants. A buccaneer approach goes right to the bottom line. That's because we are industry experts before the client calls. We are an active part of the forum on aviation trends. All consultants claim to "tell it like it is" - but we have the media clips to prove it. When it comes to our industry, Boyd Group International is the one that has the reputation of not holding back. Facts are facts, regardless if they vary from what "everybody knows" or what comes out of Washington.

General Qualifications. If you have real values and integrity - and will openly stand up and express the truth when most people would tell you "that might not make so-and-so happy" or "how dare you question the experts," or "that's not politically correct"  - okay, you may be a buccaneer.

  • At many companies, it's a career-limiter to question ambient thinking, or express views counter to what the company's Kool-Aid culture supports. It's just the opposite at Boyd Group International. In our consulting work, if some people don't want to hear the truth, we don't take them as clients.

  • But if you're now working in aviation, say, at an airline planning, marketing or finance department, and want to get up, get out, and become a buccaneer - that's what we're looking for.

If you're looking for more - more impact on aviation, more challenge, more fun - check us out.

Working At Boyd Group International

Ready For New Challenges?

We are not like other consulting firms.

We are experts in aviation first, and industry advisors second. That is the only ethical approach to consulting. We don’t wait for a project to come in, and then go on-line to find out about the subject matter, as do many of those huge “global” consulting firms that rely on freshly-graduated MBAs who often have no real-world business experience whatsoever.

At this firm, we don't use esoteric "consultant speak" - like "doing a deep dive" or "focusing on new analytical clock speeds," or "checking the swim lanes" (?), or "pressure-testing margins." All that says is that  the consultant really doesn't know the difference between DB1B and a new strain of Asian flu.

Frankly, we hold in abject contempt firms that deal in such flim-flam, because we've seen first hand the damage they can do by holding themselves out as experts in subjects on which they have no specific background. Pedigrees and having offices around the globe are no substitute for aviation knowledge and futurist expertise.

At Boyd Group International, when clients call, we have the industry knowledge and the data resources to hit the ground running. We are a full-time firm, working together at our offices in Evergreen, Colorado. We don’t dishonestly try to pass off commission-paid associates’ homes as “branch offices.”  And as you can see from this site and from our independent research, we are an activist organization.

Think You Can Make A Difference In Aviation? Well, That's What We Do. At Boyd Group International, we're focused on research and market intelligence. That sets us at the forefront of the aviation consulting business - we're trend and thought-leaders. We're involved in an exciting range of projects that challenge the old and engender now thinking. Whether it's a strategic plan for a major airline, or working with general aviation airports to find new revenue streams, or accomplishing gateway plans for international carriers, or feasibility analyses for new aircraft, we're at the forefront, working on projects that push us to find new solutions for new problems.

What We're Looking For. If you’re eager to take on a crusade – one where you’re excited about moving the forum of aviation thinking ahead , we may want to talk.

If you wouldn't be comfortable standing in front of an airline CEO, outlining data and concepts that you know are accurate but may run against accepted wisdom, this is not the place, because that's the type of work we do. We don't have a problem taking on "the establishment." Some people shy away from that, and that's okay. But this is not the place for them.

We're Not One of The Consulting Gang. Leaders don't run with the pack. Boyd Group International has always been independent and at the cutting edge of aviation consulting and research. Over the past 25 years, we’ve grown into the number one firm in thought leadership and vision. The reason is simple – we don’t accept “the consensus.”  That’s because “the consensus” is all about the type of dead-inertia thinking that has never served to move aviation forward.  No new breakthroughs have ever been found by relying on the consensus. That's what sets us apart from other aviation consulting organizations.

This is one reason we are not members of various associations, councils or other organizations allegedly representing aviation consultants. We're ahead of them, because we are not interested in the kinds of lethargic groupthink they generally represent. Nothing great has ever been accomplished by running with the pack.

Want To Make A Difference?  Lots of people are quite content with a 9-5 day, a pay check, and no controversy. That’s fine. But that’s not what Boyd Group International is all about. We really are out front, and we really are leaders in aviation consulting and research.  We don’t shy from controversy. Sure, all consultants will say they “tell it like it is.” The difference is we have the news clips and interview videos to prove it. The fact is, they don't.

The question is, do you believe you’re ahead of the pack? Do you want to make a difference in aviation? Do you have a fire to hit the ground running, to look over the horizon and to find new perspectives? Do you have the insight and the burning desire to get beyond the mental marshmallow-myopia that makes it unsafe to espouse new concepts and new approaches?

Location. One of the reasons that Boyd Group International is the leader in trend-analysis and concept-leadership is that we work together, exchanging ideas and perspectives.

That's why all staff work is accomplished at our headquarters office building in Evergreen, Colorado, in the Rocky Mountain foothills (elevation 7,990ft / 2,435 meters). We are just 25 - 30 minutes from downtown Denver, 30 minutes from the Continental Divide, and one hour east of Vail.

At Boyd Group International, we’re moving ahead. If you have the above general qualifications, and really do want to make a difference, send your resume and your idea of how you can add to our team, to info@AviationPlanning.com. Please put “Opportunity” in the subject line. No calls, please. EOE
